Scholarship Program

GENERAL INFORMATION

The Sierra Leone Club of Columbus Ohio (SLCCO) is a non-profit organization incorporated in the state of Ohio in 1993.

 In 2008 the Association established the SLCCO Scholarship Program, providing educational grants to needy students in Junior secondary and Senior Secondary schools (JSS-SSS)

 SLCCO is seeking well rounded motivated students who show potential of becoming model citizens. The SLCCO shall award, depending on the availability of funds up to Le 300.000 per student each year. This amount is subject to review every year.

 ELIGIBILITY

 The Scholarship applicant must be a student in good standing at any public school in the country, a citizen and resident of Sierra Leone.

  Applicants must demonstrate financial need, active participation in extracurricular and community activities, good academic standard and good conduct.

  The scholarships will be applied towards educational expenses such as tuition and uniforms.

SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS

  Scholarships could cover a period of six years (JSSI-III, SSSI-III) as long as the awardee continues to maintain the requirements of the scholarship.

   Scholarship applications shall be forwarded to the “scholarship committee” no later than the last Friday in June of the current academic year for consideration for the next academic year that begins in September.

SCHOLARSHIP SELECTION COMMITTEE

An independent Scholarship Selection Committee shall be entrusted with the responsibility of selecting awardees based on guidelines established by the SLCCO Association.

 In evaluating the applicants, the committee shall consider the following:

 JSSI Applicants: primary school transcript. The applicant’s standardized test scores and a copy of formal letter of admission to Junior Secondary School

The applicant’s (transcript) Junior Secondary and/or Senior Secondary school

The applicant’s extracurricular and community activities, work experience if any, and a Letter of Recommendation

Applicant’s demonstrated financial need.

 Award winners shall be selected largely on the basis of financial needs after demonstrating a high academic standard and active involvement in community work

All applicants are required to submit financial information to help determine their financial needs.

 SPONSIBILITY OF RECIPIENTS

Scholarship recipients must continue in school for the entire academic year without interruption, barring illness or emergency.

Must maintain good conduct and academic standards (top 20% of class).

PAYMENT OF SHOLARSHIP FUNDS

The Scholarship awardee shall be invited to a public presentation ceremony to accept payment.

NOTE: INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL BE INELLIGIBLE FOR AN AWARD AND WILL NOT BE PROCESSED.

 

Please complete application form clearly and in full in black ink and return to the scholarship processing department no later than the last Friday in June of the current academic year together with any supporting documentation or references required from your school. Use additional pages where necessary. All applicants should provide supporting documentation relating to income, appropriate to your circumstances.

SLCCO scholarship selection committee might acknowledge receipt of application or the outcome of application by phone or a public announcement.

It is therefore important that a contact address and phone number(s) be provided where you can be reached from June – September 2010.

A unique identification number will be provided to all applicants by the SLCCO scholarship committee

The decision of the SLCCO scholarship selection committee is final and we cannot, regrettably,participate in any individual correspondence with applicants before or after that decision.

Submission of the application and academic credentials does not constitute an entitlement or a legally enforceable right to a scholarship.

By submitting this application, the applicant agrees to accept the decision of the committee. Such decision does not grant a right of appeal.

For income from your parents or other sources, please provide income from employment, copies of your bank statements and/or other documentation showing the income level and its source.
