It was another memorable gathering at Alum Creek State Park Beach, where members of the Sierra Leone community in the Columbus, Ohio area celebrated their Annual Picnic, on August 2, 2009.

There was so much love and reunion among Sierra Leoneans that one could dare say that we have the same parents. Among the gathering were representatives of the Columbus based Sierra Rangers football club and other Sierra Leonean soccer teams from twelve states in the US that came to play a galaxy of soccer matches on Saturday August 1, 2009. There was food, drinks and music to the taste of everyone present. In fact, the gathering was blessed with the presence of Sierra Leonean world renowned artist, Kao Denevo. He gave two performances. On behalf of the Sierra Leone Club of Columbus, Ohio, we wish to express our love and appreciation for his wonderful performances.

The main event of the Picnic was the recognition of the 2009 graduates in the Sierra Leone community. The graduates ranged from Kindergarten to Bachelors degree. These graduates were recognized individually with a certificate designed by the Sierra Leone Club of Columbus, Ohio (SLCCO). This is a way in which the Club inspires it's community members for higher academic achievements. The ranks and names of the graduates for 2009 are listed below.

Sierra Leoneans are looking forward to the next Annual Picnic in 2010. The President of the Club, Mr. Abass Bangura, in closing, appealed to all Sierra Leoneans present to make financial contribution toward the scholarship program that the club has started in Sierra Leone for the 2008/2009 academic school year. The presence of Dr and Mrs. M. Fyle gave an impetus to the sincerity of the program. They narrated the anxiety of the recipients and publicity that the program had in the media in Sierra Leone. The Club is optimistic that the program will continue for the 2009/2010 academic year.
